From the Ol' Pro: Bob Wickes, our Board President, is an old hand at bowl-a-thons. In fact, he and some friends organized our first one. Bob suggests that you set a goal of getting pledges that total $1 for every point you earn on Nov. 18th. Then, every time you knock down a pin, you can say, "There's another dollar I've raised for AIDS research!"

How to Do a Bowl-a-Thon
- Sign up! Send an e-mail to bowl@appliedbiomed.org or call us at 831-454-9147. You can also setup your own team here online. We need to know how many lanes to reserve at the bowling alley.
- Get pledges. IT'S EASY! YOU JUST ASK. Your friends and family will want to support you. Ask them to visit the website to sponsor the event in your name. Remember, there's a prize for the bowler with the most donors!
- Show up and bowl to strike out AIDS! Check the map for directions to the bowling alley above. We'll start checking in bowlers at 11:45 a.m. You can
even bring all of your pre-paid pledges to the bowl-a-thon. (How easy is that?)
- Collect your pledges.
- Congratulate yourself on a job well done!
So where does the money go?
Money raised through the bowl-a-thon supports the ongoing expenses required to keep the research arm of the Institute active -- the money for making and testing the drug. Usually less than 10% of the funds raised are used to cover expenses directly related to the bowl-a-thon, which is primarily the cost of two games and shoes for each bowler. Everything else goes straight to supporting our core mission! Our research provides a future and a hope to the 40 million HIV+ people around the world, as well as to people suffering from autoimmune diseases, who may be helped by the insight into the immune system that our AIDS research is generating.
Many thanks to Boardwalk Bowl for giving us a great price break, which means that even more of the money we raise will go towards AIDS research! |
