It is time for WomenCARE’s 28th Annual STRIKE OUT AGAINST CANCER Bowling Benefit on Saturday, October 26th. We are looking forward to another fun day of bowling and raising money and awareness. We are excited to bring back IN PERSON bowling while also offering a VIRTUAL TEAM option to ensure that everyone, regardless of their location, can participate in the FUNdraising! We hope to make this year our most successful yet! There are several ways that you can help support this year’s event:
Bowl:
- Grab up to four of your favorite people to bowl with you, join an existing team, sign up as a single bowler or create a “Virtual Team” (for those who cannot attend but would still like to collect donations). No bowling experience is necessary! Get started right away… pick your team, select a team name, and sign up! A team captain may have multiple teams.
- Click Here to register your team. Choose a team name. The lane will be reserved under this team name the day of the event. Be creative and have fun! Each team may have up to 5 bowlers.
- Come bowling with us! You can join an existing team or let us assign you to a team that needs bowlers. Register to Bowl Here
- You can direct your sponsors – friends and family – to the website to make their donations on behalf of your team with a credit or debit card through PayPal. The website will keep track of your progress. It’s that easy! (Donations can also be made by cash or check. See below for more details.)
You can create a team or join an existing team. For those who aren’t able to attend, but would still like to collect pledges online, create a “virtual team“. - We ask that each team collectively raise at least $500. Donations must be received by day of event (checks and cash may be handed in during check-in on day of event).
- Team Captains – please make sure all of your teammates know the date, time and location of the event. All sessions begin promptly on time. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to start time to check-in with your team, grab your shoes, fill out raffle tickets, and grab the perfect ball! Don’t forget your socks!
- Shoes and complimentary refreshments are provided to each team player.
Prizes:
The team with the highest donation total will win a fabulous prize basket that includes gift certificates for each team player from a variety of local businesses, trophies, and more! Additional prizes will be awarded for the highest scores at each session, for the highest score in the overall event, and to the individual player with the highest donation total. There are even prizes for best team costumes. Raffle prizes will be given away during each session. Each bowler receives one raffle ticket when signing in for your session. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased to better your chances of winning a great prize!
Sponsor: There are four sponsorship levels that include a variety of great benefits. Please see sponsorship opportunity details below. SPONSOR NOW!
Pledge/Donate: Make a pledge to a team or individual bowler, or donate to the event. You can donate any amount you’d like. All donations are appreciated! DONATE NOW!
- SET A GOAL. You can top the $500 commitment we ask for from each team. Don’t underestimate yourself.
- START EARLY. Don’t wait until the last minute. It’s never too early.
- JUST ASK. Don’t be afraid. Ask people to “help you support WomenCARE”. Ask everyone: family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, your boss, hairdresser, dentist, or doctor. Most people have been touched by cancer. Remember that your friends and family want to support you, so don’t be shy!
- SEND A LETTER or EMAIL. Write a simple letter to friends and family members. Tell them why you are bowling and ask them to support you by making a contribution. Include a return envelope by mail and a link to our donation page for online donations (www.bowlathon.net/manage/event/strike-out-against-cancer-2024/donation/create). This is a painless way to ask and brings in a surprising amount of donations!
- PLEASE NOTE: If you will be paying by check, please make check payable to WomenCARE and mail your check to WomenCARE, 2901 Park Ave, Suite A1, Soquel, CA 95073
- All donations to WomenCARE will directly support our cancer support services, helping women in our community at no cost. WomenCARE is a program of Family Service Agency of the Central Coast, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Tax ID: 94-1716354.

About Our Organization
In the Spring of 1992, a small group of dedicated visionaries imagined a place in Santa Cruz where women who were living with cancer might find help, information, and a supportive community. They pictured a place where they would find open-hearted support and understanding as they faced painful challenges with no easy solutions. They dreamed of a place where they would not feel quite so alone, where women from diverse backgrounds, beliefs, lifestyles, and ethnic origins could sit side by side, sharing their experiences of cancer. They imagined an organization which would advocate for research into the underlying causes of cancer, and which would challenge the cancer establishment’s limited agenda. They envisioned an organization which would educate the public, and which would provide a central location for resources and referrals. They believed that all of these services should be offered free of charge to any woman with cancer, and to her loved ones.
Over the years, WomenCARE has evolved in accordance with the vision of these founding mothers–symbolized by the heart at the center of our logo. We maintain the belief that healing is always possible, even when the hoped-for cure proves elusive. Our commitment to consensus decision-making rests on careful, respectful listening to diverse points of view. We support each woman in whatever treatment choices she may make. We strive for inclusiveness and invite a diversity of participation as reflected by ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, religion or spiritual practice. We are dedicated to maintaining low administrative costs with an emphasis on service to the community, always free of charge.
Our Philosophy
WomenCARE is a community providing advocacy, resources, education and support to women with cancer, their families, friends and health practitioners throughout diagnosis, healing, surviving, or dying. WomenCARE is directed and led primarily by women with cancer or a cancer history. WomenCARE respects and depends upon the wisdom that comes from a diversity of culture, economic background, age, sexual orientation, and physical ability, and thus strives to be an organization embracing the widest diversity of women. Cancer weaves innumerable changes -small and profound- into women’s lives. We acknowledge cancer as a complicated disease that strikes at random. We believe that no woman is to blame for getting cancer. WomenCARE honors the unique relationship each individual has to cancer.
WomenCARE helps women to explore diagnostic and treatment choices from worldwide and multicultural options. We honor and respect a women’s individual decisions, including choosing not to begin or not to continue treatment. In coalition with other organizations, WomenCARE is committed to uncovering and challenging the current politics of cancer. We strive to rectify the insufficient funding for prevention, education, treatment and research of women’s cancers as well as the inequitable access to medical and alternative treatments and to quality support services. WomenCARE understands the necessity of, and is committed to, creating an organizational structure and process which promotes the health and well being of all women involved in WomenCARE.
